Hair Care
DIY Deep-Conditioning/Repairing Mask
Hey everyone! So this is my first ever original DIY recipe! I hope you enjoy!
*Disclaimer: Although this did in fact work on my hair, it may not work on yours. Unfortunately... not all hairs are created equal.
**DO NOT use any of these recipes if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or anything similar to these ingredients. Anything you take from this site is at your own risk, so don't blame me if it goes wrong or you use it when you know you're allergic. Let's not be stupid.. If all your friends jumped off a bridge would you do it too?**
That being said..
For the past 4 or so years I have been dying my hair with a vegan hair dye that has actually helped condition and repair my hair. However, after I stopped dying it I noticed my hair began to feel a little dry and brittle (I use a lot of heat). After trying many a hair product and DIY recipe... I started my search for something new. I figured that maybe instead of looking for something that works... figure out the science behind WHY it's SUPPOSED to work. I found that several all natural as well as synthetic products contained basic ingredients to what our hair really wants.
The biggest being PROTEIN
So this is what I came up with.. the one I used last night is a little complicated, but has a foundation recipe that is actually very basic.
All you need for the base is... Eggs, Honey, and Oils
Recipe:
Base:
What I did was combine the oils and honey in a bowl and heat in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
Remove from microwave and mix well. Let cool for 2-3 minutes. *Important as you do not want to cook the eggs*
Whisk in eggs until thoroughly combined.
That's it for the base recipe. You can just use this or you can add other additives like I did...
Additives:
Application:
Start with dry hair!
What you want to do is lean your head over a tub or sink (this does get messy so wear a t-shirt you don't care too much about or robe).
Grab a gloop of goop (I like to make up words) and rub into you fringe (if you have any) to stick it too the top of your head.
Now that they're all stuck up there, flip your hair over and start spooning goop onto your hair, massaging into the scalp.
When you get annoyed with this process... just pour goop on your head a little at a time until your entire head of hair is saturated from roots to ends.
After you've made sure all your hair is wet, flip your head back over, twist into a bun, and clip on top of your head.
Then cover with either a plastic shower cap or plastic wrap and...
Wrap your head in a towel! (Optional: Heat with blowdryer for 2-3 minutes before wrapping hair in towel)
Wait at least 30 minutes before rinsing out (I left mine in for an hour).
When rinsing, shampoo as you normally would, but DO NOT CONDITION unless ommiting step two of this process!
Optional Step 2:
Flip over hair and repeat above process, massaging the oil into your scalp and all the way down the length of your hair.
Massage for 4-6 minutes keeping your head "upside down" the entire time. This is called the inversion method. This helps increase circulation to your scalp which promotes stronger and FASTER hair growth.
Fashion hair into a comfortable bun, re-wrap in the plastic wrap/shower cap, wrap towel around hair, and leave on overnight.
Upon showering the following morning, you may use conditioner. I find the most effective way to condition is to wash my hair before my body, applying my conditioner, and pinning it up with a clip while I wash my body. After I'm done scrubbing... I turn my shower on cold *yikes* and rinse will the coldest water I can stand (which is basically just cool lol). This seals the follicle creating shine and sealing in moisture.
Let your hair air dry.
Repeat as often as needed.
**If you're like me and have oily hair... this may or may not be a good option for you. I found that my hair the next day did look a little greasy but not enough to where I couldn't go out.**
Just a reminder:
Not all hair is the same! This may or may not work for you. I hope it does though because I couldn't believe how great my hair felt after doing this.
Welp I hope you enjoyed and please feel free to comment below with your requests and experiences using this mask!
Thanks for listening!

So this is what I came up with.. the one I used last night is a little complicated, but has a foundation recipe that is actually very basic.
All you need for the base is... Eggs, Honey, and Oils
Recipe:
Base:
- 2 tablespoons Olive Oil (use three if you do not have coconut)
- 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil (see above)
- 1-2 tablespoons of Honey (preferably unprocessed, but let's be honest.. who can afford it)
- 2 eggs
What I did was combine the oils and honey in a bowl and heat in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
Remove from microwave and mix well. Let cool for 2-3 minutes. *Important as you do not want to cook the eggs*
Whisk in eggs until thoroughly combined.
That's it for the base recipe. You can just use this or you can add other additives like I did...
Additives:
- 2 teaspoons greek yogurt (look for high protein)
- 1 teaspoon of protein powder (not sure how much this actually does but hey... it was worth the shot)
- A squirt of Vitamin E or Tea Tree Oil (or use both; roughly a teaspoon total)
Application:
Start with dry hair!
What you want to do is lean your head over a tub or sink (this does get messy so wear a t-shirt you don't care too much about or robe).
Grab a gloop of goop (I like to make up words) and rub into you fringe (if you have any) to stick it too the top of your head.

Wait at least 30 minutes before rinsing out (I left mine in for an hour).
When rinsing, shampoo as you normally would, but DO NOT CONDITION unless ommiting step two of this process!
Optional Step 2:
- Oil/favorite blend of oils such as: coconut oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, vitamin E oil, or tea tree oil (I used a blend of coconut and vitamin E)
